Forcing the nut onto the compression ring at an angle when the tubing is at an angle will cause a leak. When turning the water back on in your home, always run the outside hose valve or flush your toilets to bleed dirt and air from the lines. This debris can cause problems in your sink faucets and other plumbing trim. Installing Your Bathroom Sink Pipes required for roughing in the bathroom sink include hot and cold supply stubouts, shutoff valves, transition fittings, and possibly flexible tubing for above the shutoff valves. Air chambers may also be required. If you are installing the bathroom sink in a back to back arrangement, little pipe is required. Since a sink rates low in fixture units, it should have little effect on the present drain’s efficiency. Refer to the fixture unit chart in the Uniform Plumbing Code Book.

My bathroom sink is simple enough that the pipes and pop-up assembly do not require any special tools to take apart and put together. The only tool I employed besides my hands was an old tooth brush. This job takes me about 15 minutes; less time than it takes to go to the store and back to buy those old chemicals.

Bathrooms Plumbing an entire bathroom may seem like a big project and in some cases it is. Running all the waste and water lines through floor joists and walls can take some planning and trial and error. That’s the hard part of plumbing a bathroom and it’s different for each project. Take some extra time to draw out your plans to make sure you’ll be running lines the best way possible. Fill the sink up with water, and let the water drain while you check for leaks under pressure. Step 12 – Caulk the Sides Apply caulk to the sides and back of the vanity top to the wall.
April 27, A. I fixed the same issue for a neighbor She bought a new washer that discharges water at a higher rate, causing her drain line to overflow. I cleared the line about 15 feet or so and no luck. I tried every way to fix it but just came to the simple, but not as neat, way of discharging the water into a plastic mop sink with a p-trap discharging into the drain line. This does the job and adds a mop sink in your garage and if you need to soak, clean etc you don’t need to go to the kitchen.
Do not discard chemicals or paints down the mop sink, not good for your cast iron or the ocean. You might have to relocate the washing machine and dryer: We bought a newer washing machine and our drain could not handle the flow, it would back up in the sink and overflow.

Today is the log awaited project of installing the IKEA vanity cabinet and sink top. We purchased the complete package from IKEA before we started this project when we were visiting the New York area over the Christmas holiday. The plumbing for the IKEA cabinet is slightly different than a normal base cabinet because of the massive sliding drawers that they have. With the larger drawers comes extremely tight plumbing.
Knowing this small fact before you do any of the rough plumbing will give you a huge advantage when it comes time to install it. The stub-out lines and valves must be flush against the wall and the drain will need to come out of the wall and not the floor. All the pre-planning paid off largely as I was able to install the vanity within minutes. The only hang up was the length of the supply hoses for the faucet. Because of how flush the valves had to be against the wall, the only spot that I could place them was really low to avoid the cross studs from the guest bedroom.
With the valves being so low, I was forced to extend the supply lines. So as you can see below, this is how it will look after you are all set. The p-trap is tight against the wall and supply lines are tucked up nicely out of the way and secured by some pex piping holders.

How a Pop-Up Stopper Works Pop-ups are simple mechanical devices that use a system of links and levers to move a drain stoppers up and down to seal a sink bowl or bathtub. The spring pulls a rocker arm that raises and lowers the stopper see the illustration above. Pushing the knob and the lift rod down causes the pivot rod to push the stopper up. Pulling the knob causes the pivot rod to pull the stopper down. If you want to remove the assembly, you may be able to pull it right out. You may have to twist the stopper to unhook it from the pivot rod.

A blocked or clogged drain is a pain, but it doesn’t mean that you need to call a plumber. Most clogged drains can be easily cleared by using things that are around the house or just a few inexpensive tools. Drain Anatomy All drains have a similar construction. At the bottom of the drainpipe is a curved section of pipe called a trap; under the sink, this trap is shaped like an “U.
Over time, however, the traps sometimes get blocked with things like cooking grease or food particles in kitchen drains or hair and soap scum in tubs and bathroom sinks. Slow running drains are partially blocked, and drains that don’t drain at all are obviously totally blocked. Clearing Out a Blockage The first step in unblocking a bathtub drain is to look at it and see if you can spot what’s blocking it.
In bathtubs, often a build up of hair and scuzzy soap scum will actually close up a drain. If you can see hair in the bottom of the drain, you can often just reach in and pull the clog out. Since that’s not a lot of fun, you might want to try bending a wire coat hanger to hook onto the clog to pull it out. Alternatively, a pair of tweezers might work, or even a pair of needle nose pliers. Using a Plunger If you can’t see the clog to pull it out, your next step is to try plunging the drain.
